| Brían O'Meara | Mar 9, 4:59PM | Anyone planning to do this? http://www.swissalpine.ch/cms/description-k42.phtml |
| Rowan McMahon | Mar 10, 10:50AM | Yes, there are a few of us from the North who have entered the Ultra Marathon - the K78. Currently using the Mourne Way Marathon route as training ground and some are hoping to run the Mourne Way Ultra in preparation for it. It replicates the distance and elevation of the Swiss Alpine Ultra, the only thing we don't have is the altitude! Are you entering? |
| Brían O'Meara | Mar 10, 11:53AM | I've entered the K42, but looking for training tips. The altitude will be challenging alright!! |
| Rowan McMahon | Mar 10, 10:02PM | www.mournewaymarathon.com - no better training! |
| Darren O'Connell | Mar 11, 6:33PM | Brian, Did the 42k in 2008. Epic event. Superbly organised (typical Swiss efficiency). First 10km is a gentle enough climb into the foothills before the real fun begins. Once on the mountain proper you'll be on a narrow trail to the top. This is done at a walk by all but the elite runners and you'll just have to get in line and follow the crowd (unless you are an elite runner yourself of course). Much needed refreshments at the top of the first mountain and then it's full speed down into the valley below. Second mountain is even more of a lung buster than the first and includes crossing some patches of snow. After that it's a long scary downhill back into the valley before the course flattens out for the last few miles back into Davos. Timewise you're looking at adding 90 mins to 2 hours onto your normal marathon time. Didn't find the altitude to be much of a problem. Too busy trying to get up the hill to worry about it! Amazing experience though and would definitely highly recommend it. Darren |
| James McQuillan | Jun 25, 2:39PM | I'm looking at doing this race in a few weeks but getting to and from Davos looks a bit tricky. Was thinking of Dublin - Munich and then using the train into switzerland and what looks like 3 additional swiss trains. Anyone know best way to get there? Thanks James |
| Roc Kel | Jul 7, 4:32PM | Much better to fly to Zurich, there are daily flights with Swiss www.swiss.com and 4 weekly flights with Aerlingus. you can get the train from Zurich Airport (via city of Zurich) to Davos. the Swiss rail site is www.sbb.com and you can search for connections there. The train service in Switzerland is excellent; hope this helps |
| Christel Jaarsma | Aug 4, 2:55PM | How did you like the race? I was in the K42 last Saturday and loved it! Posted a recap on it on my blog: http://sillygirlrunning.blogspot.com/2010/08/i-did-it-swiss-alpine-marathon-k42-race.html |
| Brían O'Meara | Aug 4, 6:11PM | It's a great race, Christel. Very enjoyable and very well organised. It's definitely on the list again next year.. |
