| Gerry Brady | Mar 13, 11:17PM | Brian The schools will be on in October http://www.imra.ie/events/view/id/796/ There are so many underage events on in February and March we moved the Provincial schools to the Autumn last year and have moved the Irish schools to the Autumn also. There will be a trial race for Youths (born 1993-1994) on April 10th in Howth. Mags Greenan will be organising a training run next Sunday for those interested in seeing the course for the trial (meet at 11:00 at the seafront car park in Howth village which is almost opposite Maud's cafe, wear runners). A map of the trial course is on the IMRA web page. Well done today in the Irish schools, senior team silver medals! |

| Gerry Brady | Apr 2, 1:37PM | An Irish schools championships will after all be held in the 2009/2010 school year. The race will be held on Slievenamon in Munster on Wednesday 28th April. See events pages for details. |

| Martin Mc Donald | Apr 28, 9:48PM | I drove down to Slievenamon today with my two girls to the Irish schools mountain race. We were very disappointed to find out it had been cancelled, as we had checked the web a couple of days ago and thought everything was ok. The problem seems to have been not enough interest in the venue, last year in the pheonix park it was a big success as a very good test for a schools race. Mabey we should have left it in the park? Slievenamon sounds a bit daunting to most, except some of our toughest athletes. What does anyone else think? |

By choosing a date this year end of April / early May it showed a lack of understanding of how secondary schools work. It is right in the middle of the Orals and Practical exams for both Leaving Cert. and Junior Cert. and one month from the exams themselves. |
| Gerry Brady | Apr 28, 10:42PM | Martin, just to follow-up on my phone call. Apologies to you, Breda and Kate for the late cancellation of the race and the unnecessary journey. A decision was made in late 2009 to move the schools race to October to avoid clashes with the mainstream schools and clubs athletics events. Subsequently in response to some requests to hold an event in this school year, a decision was made to hold a race. Unfortunately the zone track and field events were also held this week and they were essentially the cause of the low entry. |
